School of Commerce | ||
The School of
Commerce was founded in 1904 as the first such division at a private
university in Japan, and prides itself on a 90 year tradition. The
School of Commerce, by contributing to society and continually meeting
the demand of the times during the eras of modernization, post-war
reconstruction, and high growth economic expansion, has always been
highly evaluated, and is now attracting renewed attention and
expectation. The School of Commerce is dedicated to the pursuit of
comprehensive commercial science in order to prodeuce graduates able to
play leading roles in the various industries developing in an
increasingly complex international community. In order to nurture young people that can cope with the ever-changing social climate, the School of Commerce is continuously probing for more effective systems and aiming to raise the quality of its strong curriculum and the teaching staff supporting it, showing a vitality unequaled elsewhere. The School of Commerce was the first school to introduce the seminar system 79 years ago. Limited-enrollment seminar-style classes promote lively activities, combining the voluntary motivation of the students with the enthusiastic and demanding supervision of their professors. At present as many as seventy seminars are conducting research on a daily basis. In order to master the essence of "commerce" as a practical science, the students are instructed not only in the theory of commerce, but are also given real-life knowledge through various forms of practical training and are prepared for a hi-tech society through the active use of computers. The School has also achieved great results in preparing students for the qualifying examinations for certified public accountants, licensed tax accountants and others. Graduate School The Meiji University Graduate School
consists of seven departments (Law, Commerce, Political Science and
Economics, Business Administration, Arts and Letters, Science and
Technology, and Agriculture) based on their respective colleges. Each
department offers Master's Courses (the first two years of the Doctoral
Program) and Doctoral Courses (the final three years of the Doctoral
Program). Previously the aim of the Graduate School was exclusively to
train scholars, but in recent years the School has also emphasized the
training of expert professionals in highly specialized fields. Each
graduate research course is striving to reform its curriculum to
flexibly respond to the demands of the changing society and to produce
students with outstanding research capabilities and a rich array of
expertise who can truly contribute to society. |
